Fresno State falls to Albany 11-9

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State fell to Albany in a hard-fought match on Saturday night, 11-9. Ryleigh Bone led the Bulldogs with a hat trick against the Great Danes.
Fresno State falls to 5-4 on the season.
"Albany is a tough team," said head coach Jessica Giglio. "We played a great defensive game. We needed to put some more shots away on the attack. This is a tough loss, but we are going to get back to it on Monday at practice."Â
Sarah Bloise had two goals on the night. Marina Mayo, Tiffiny Wallace, Mackenzie Wallevand and Kayla Galet had one goal apiece, to round out scoring for the Bulldogs.
FIRST HALF
Bone, Bloise, Mayo Wallace, Wallevand, Galet, Hannah Krats, Olivia Mannon, Alex Romanowski, Abigail Bergevin and Kennedy Mulvaney chalked the start for Fresno State with Laurel Maunder in the goal.
Bloise opened up scoring in the first half with a free position shot, giving the Bulldogs an early lead.
Albany went on a 5-0 run over a 15 minute span, to take a 5-1 lead with 5:40 left in the half. Fresno State stopped Albany's run with a goal from Galet with 5:22 left in the half.
The Great Danes took a 5-2 lead into halftime.
SECOND HALF
Albany struck first in the second half, holding a 6-2 lead with 28:26 left in the game.
Mayo and Wallace scored back-to-back goals for the Bulldogs, cutting the Great Dane's lead to two.
Albany would regain its four goal lead after back-to-back goals, leading 9-5 with 13:39 left to play. The teams exchanged goals with 9:18 left in the match (10-6).
Bone and Wallevand attempted to close the scoring gap with back-to-back goals putting Fresno State within two (10-8) with 6:15 left in the match. The Bulldogs would score once more as Bone found the back of the net with 2:56 left in the game, but it wasn't enough to erase the deficit. The game clock would expire with the Great Danes leading 11-9.
NOTABLE STATS
Fresno State owned the advantage in saves (13-9), ground balls (27-23) and draw controls (12-11). Albany recorded more shots (33-24) in the match.
On offense, Bone led the Bulldogs with a team-high three goals. Bone also recorded one assist, four points, two ground balls and one caused turnover. On defense, Maunder recorded a season-high 13 saves. Maunder also chalked four ground balls and one caused turnover.
