COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – After leading Fresno State to a sweep of previous MW leader San Jose State, junior center fielder Vanessa Hernandez has been named Mountain West Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday.
Â
The award is the first for Hernandez and the second for the team this year after Savannah McHellon earned the first league Player of the Week honor this season.
Â
Hernandez drove in eight runs in three games at San Jose State as the Bulldogs passed the Spartans into first place in the MW conference. Hernandez hit 5-for-12 (.417) with a home run, two doubles, eight RBIs, and two runs in the road sweep.
Â
She drove in at least two runs in all three games, accounting for six more runs than the Spartans scored as a team in the entire series. Â

Â
In conference play East is 6-1 with a 1.35 ERA and three shutouts. She has 74 strikeouts in 41.1 innings pitched in league play, just one strikeout shy of the MW freshman record for strikeouts in conference play with still 12 conference games remaining on the Bulldog schedule.
