Fresno State hosts UNLV on Saturday in the regular-season finale as both teams enter with a 3-0 record in Mountain West play.
FRESNO, Calif. – With a potential clash of undefeated conference teams looming this weekend, Fresno State held up its end on Tuesday afternoon, posting its third Mountain West win of the season after defeating San Diego State 4-3 at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center.
"It was a good win and gives us a chance to go undefeated in conference with a win against the top team in the conference on Saturday," Fresno State head coach Ryan Stotland said. "We're on a five-match win streak in which we've continued to find a way to win. I'm excited that we're getting better each day and are peaking at the right time."
The Bulldogs grabbed the early momentum after earning their third doubles point in the last four matches. Fresno State's No. 35 ranked pair of Georgia Lawson and Emma Wilson tied doubles play at 1-1 with a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position moments after San Diego State picked up the win at No. 2. With the No. 3 match at 4-4, Olivia Noble and Katerina Stloukalova grabbed the final two points of the match to give the 'Dogs the 1-0 advantage heading into singles.
Fresno State took a commanding 3-0 lead after a pair of comfortable wins at the No. 2 and No. 4 positions. After a dominant first set, Juliane Triebe fought back in the second to defeat Magda Aubets, 6-0, 6-4 on Court 4. It was the sophomore's seventh win a row dating back to March 17. Just after Triebe finished, Stloukalova won her third straight conference match, 6-1, 6-3 to put the 'Dogs on the brink of clinching the dual.
The Aztecs then made it 3-1 as Nnena Nadozie won a straight set match at No. 6. Wilson served up the clinching point for the Bulldogs in the No. 1 match as the junior came on midway through the second set to win 7-5, 6-2.
