Fresno State falls to 12-seeded UCLA in the 2018 NCAA Tournament

LOS ANGELES – The Fresno State women's tennis team fell to No. 12 seed UCLA in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament, ending its 2018 postseason run.
The Bulldogs made their second NCAA Tournament in the last five years, finishing the season with an overall 12-13 (3-1 MW) record. Fresno State earned its bid to the NCAA Tournament after becoming the 2018 Mountain West Tournament Champions.Â
Doubles – The Bruins came into Saturday's match winning 20 out of 25 doubles points this season.
UCLA took the win at the No. 3 position when Alaina Miller and Ena Shibahara defeated Olivia Noble and Katerina Stloukalova, 6-1. The doubles point was clinched by No. 7 Jade Hart and Terri Fleming when they defeated No. 50 Emma Wilson and Georgia Lawson in a close 6-4 match.
The match at the No. 2 position was left unfinished.
Singles – The Bruins brought the momentum from doubles into singles.
No. 121 Miller defeated Noble at the No. 6 position to give UCLA a 2-0 lead (6-0. 6-1). The Bruins extended their lead to 3-0 when No. 67 Abi Altick bested Ndindi Ndunda at the No. 4 position (6-0, 6-0).
The Bulldogs pushed back in their second sets. Stloukalova was on the brink of splitting sets with a 5-2 lead in her second set at the No. 2 position against No. 33 Jada Hart. Juliane Triebe split sets at the No. 4 position against Fleming.
Despite a second set comeback from Wilson at the No. 1 position, No. 9 Shihbahara clinched the match for UCLA at the No. 1 position 6-0, 7-6(6).
The matches on courts 2, 3 and 4 were left unfinished.
