Senior Spotlight: Brooke Coates
FRESNO, Calif. - Four-year Bulldog Brooke Coates is the next senior to be introduced before Senior Day on Sunday. Fresno State softball will honor its five seniors before the first pitch of Sunday's game.
Coates came to Fresno State out of Farmersville, Calif. and has contributed her speed all four years. The 'Dogs took advantage of Coates' baserunning in 25 games of her freshman season. She scored 10 runs and made her first plate appearance on April 8, 2015 against New Mexico.
As a sophomore, she appeared in 32 games and scored 12 runs as a pinch-runner. Coates tripled in her first plate appearance of the season against Boise State on March 29, 2016. The following year, Coates served as a pinch-runner in 24 games and scored seven runs.
In her senior campaign, Coates has scored 19 runs for the Bulldogs and has recorded seven stolen bases.
Coates met with GoBulldogs.com to touch on memories of her four-year career with Fresno State softball.
ÂWhat was your most memorable moment as a Bulldog?
Coates: "My most memorable moment as a Bulldog would be winning the Mountain West my freshman and sophomore year. One year we won it at the end of the season and the other we won it fairly early in the season so it was special to feel it both ways."
Â
Who is your biggest role model?
Coates: "My biggest role model would have to be my brother. He works hard in school, gets good grades and works while he is a student. He earns everything on his own and is such a hard-working person."
ÂWhat will you miss most about Fresno State?
Coates: "I will miss the people that I have met and gotten the chance to know while I have been here. I have met a lot of great people who have made a big impact on my life since being at Fresno State."
ÂHow would you describe the senior class?
Coates: "I would describe this year's senior class as a family. We are all very close and it gives off a really important family feel."
ÂWhat are your plans after graduation?
Coates: "I want to get my teaching credentials in multiple subjects so I can move forward and be an elementary school teacher."
