Volleyball hosts annual Alumnae Match on Saturday
FRESNO, Calif. - Just one week away from opening the 2018 season, the Fresno State volleyball team hits the Save Mart Center floor for the first time on Saturday in the Alumnae Match at 2 p.m. Admission and parking will be free.
The Bulldogs play nine of their first 13 matches of the 2018 season away from Fresno, making the Alumnae Match one of the few early season opportunities for the 'Dogs to play in front of their home fans. It also gives the team an opportunity to test game situations and give the newcomers a chance to get more comfortable on the Save Mart floor.
The Bulldogs welcome 11 returners and add three newcomers for the 2018 season. The 13-match non-conference schedule provides the team with a chance to blend together and find the right combinations before Mountain West play begins. The 'Dogs will get plenty of experience playing on the road as well with just four non-conference home dates.
The Alumnae Match is not just important for the maturation of the current roster but also in maintaining strong bonds between the program and its many former players. It's a yearly preseason experience that celebrates the history of the program and showcases its future.
The Alumnae Match will be the first opportunity for the Red Wave to see the 2018 Bulldogs in action under first year head coach Jonathan Winder before the 'Dogs return home to host Fresno Pacific on Aug. 28.
