Fipps, Young and Jacobs added to staff for upcoming season.
FRESNO, Calif. – As the 2018-19 basketball season nears, Fresno State head coach Jaime White has rounded out her staff with graduate assistants Sydnee Fipps and Alexandria Young, along with student assistant Tory Jacobs.
Fipps joins the Bulldogs after playing professionally for Lakeside Lightning in the Women's State Basketball League in Australia where she was one of the top scorers in the league, averaging over 20 points per game during the past two seasons. She led the WSBL in three-pointers made in both seasons with 84 in 2017 and 74 in 2018. Prior to returning home to join the 'Dogs this month, the Mariposa, California native helped lead Lakeside to the club's second WSBL championship. Fipps was a three-time All-Big West first team selection at UC Davis where she ranks second in scoring in program history with 1,636 points. She earned her bachelor's degree in 2015 in managerial economics. Fipps was a two-time Division II all-state selection at Yosemite High School while leading her team to four straight North Sequoia League titles, twice earning conference MVP honors.
Young, who joined the program during the summer, came to Fresno State from University of San Diego where she played in 71 games for the Toreros from 2013-18. During her first season on the court she help the USD to its fourth straight WNIT appearance where the Toreros reached the second round. She graduated in 2018 with a degree in communication studies while minoring in visual arts. A San Diego native, she led Mater Dei to four consecutive league championships and was selected to the All-Mesa League in each of her four seasons.
Fipps and Young are both working toward their master's degrees in sports administration at Fresno State. Among other duties, Fipps will serve as an assistant to the director of operations while Young will be an assistant to the recruiting coordinator.
Along with the addition of the graduate assistants, Tory Jacobs shifted to a student assistant role during the summer for her final season with the Bulldogs. After sitting out the 2017-18 season, Jacobs officially medically retired this summer allowing her to move into her current role. She last played during the 2016-17 season when she started 32 games, averaging 8.2 points per game and led the 'Dogs with 97 assists.
