Bulldogs picked second in MW Preseason Coaches’ Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The MW softball coaches have picked Fresno State to finish second in the conference in the preseason poll released on Wednesday.

Reigning MW champion Boise State was picked to defend its title with 64 points and eight first-place votes while the 'Dogs received 57 points and one first-place vote to be picked second. San Jose State was voted third followed by UNLV, San Diego State, Nevada, Colorado State, Utah State, and New Mexico.

Fresno State finished third in the MW in 2018, behind Boise State and San Jose State, but was picked ahead of the Spartans in the 2019 poll. Fresno State and Boise State don't face each other until the final week of the regular season, May 9-11 in Fresno, in a series that very well could decide the conference champion.

The 'Dogs also host San Jose State this season, in their first MW home series March 22-24, but will play at UNLV and San Diego State. Fresno State has finished in third place or better in each of its six years as a member of the MW with league titles in 2015 and 2016.

The Bulldogs return seven starting position players including All-MW senior first baseman Rachel Minogue and junior catcher Hayleigh Galvan, who was also an NFCA All-Pacific Region selection last year. The Bulldog offense ranked second in NCAA Div. I in hit-by-pitches and fifth in the nation with a .410 on-base percentage last season and also led the MW in triples and was second in home runs, doubles, and slugging percentage.

Fresno State also returns its pitching ace from last year in All-MW lefty Danielle East, who broke the MW record for strikeouts by a freshman in conference games while winning 17 total games. Sophomore Hailey Dolcini, who was an NFCA All-Pacific Region selection at UC Riverside last season, and freshman Danielle Lung, who was a First Team All-American last season pitching for Clovis HS, will also join the team in the circle this season.

Season tickets are on-sale NOWÂ starting at just $65 for adults and $39 for seniors and youth. Mini Plans will be available on Jan. 31 and single game tickets and tournament tickets go on-sale Feb. 11. Fresno State's home opener is March 7 vs. UC Santa Barbara to open the Bulldog Classic.
