'Dogs edged by Aztecs in overtime thriller, 2-1

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State women's soccer fell to San Diego State in an overtime thriller 2-1, snapping the Bulldogs three-match winning streak.
The Aztecs took an early lead with a goal in the 11th minute, to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Emma Chivers scored the equalizer for Fresno State in the 51st minute. Fresno State and SDSU continued battling until the end of regulation, pushing the match into overtime. The Aztecs scored the sudden-death goal in the 92nd minute to lock in the victory.
Fresno State falls to 9-5-2 (5-3-1 MW), and holds sole possession of fourth place in the MW standings.
Chivers, Tori Nicolo, Audrey Reyna, Megan Amick, Lorena Montanes, Sydni Lunt, Melissa Ellis, Shantay Tamez, Kasidee Wiley and Robyn McCarthy logged the start foe the Bulldogs, with Valentina Vivas in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SDSU had a hot start on offense taking the first five consecutive shots. McCarthy took the Bulldogs' first shot of the match in the 10th minute, missing high.
The Aztecs continued to be relentless in front of the goal, taking a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute after heading the ball into the back of the net.
Fresno State tried to take the offensive momentum, outshooting SDSU 5-1 to finish the first half, but were unable to score the equalizer. SDSU would take the 1-0 lead into halftime.
After 45 minutes, SDSU owned the advantage in shots 8-6. Fresno State recorded more corners 3-1. Vivas grabbed one save for the Bulldogs.
Milena Zink checked in as goalie for Fresno State to start the second half. Chivers netted her fourth goal of the season, connecting with a pass from McCarthy from across the box to tie the match 1-1 in the 52nd minute.
The teams exchanged shots for the rest of regulation, neither were able to gain the advantage, pushing the match into overtime.
After 90 minutes, SDSU recorded more shots 13-10 and Fresno State recorded more corners 6-3. Zink was clutch in goal for the Bulldogs, logging three saves.
Fresno State struck first in overtime, when Ele Avery sent off a shot but the Aztec goalie was able to make the save to keep SDSU in the match. The Aztecs scored the gamewinner in the 92nd minute, with a fast break goal off a goal kick.
