Fresno State completes comeback win over Boise State, 2-1

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's soccer team took down Mountain West-leader Boise State 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium, ending the Broncos seven-match win streak.

Boise State jumped out to an early lead scoring in the 22nd minute, to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Ele Avery put the Bulldogs on the board, scoring the equalizer in the 58th minute. Lorena Montanes sent the ball into the back of the net off a cornerkick, scoring the game-winning goal for Fresno State. Â

Fresno State improves to 6-3-1 (2-1-1 MW) on the season.

Tori Nicolo, Megan Amick, Lorena Montanes, Sydni Hunt, Mariona Segales, Ele Avery, Shantay Tamez, Kasidee Wiley, Robyn McCarthy, and Jordan Brown chalked the start for the Bulldogs with Valentina Vivas in goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED Â Â Â Â Â Â Â
 The Broncos started the match with the offensive momentum, outshooting the Bulldogs 4-1 over the first 15 minutes with three on goal. Vivas was made three clutch saves to keep Boise State scoreless.

Boise State took the lead when Aubree Chatterton sent a shot through a defender into the back of the net in the 23rd minute.

Fresno State found its offense groove at the end of the half, taking three consecutive shots on goal but the Boise State goalkeeper made the saves to hang onto the lead into halftime.

After 45 minutes, Boise State held the advantage in shots 6-5 and led the 'Dogs 1-0. The Bulldogs owned the advantage in corner kicks 4-1 and had three shots on goal, but Bronco goalkeeper Sydney Smith was there to make the stop. Defensively, the 'Dogs led in saves with Vivas logging four in the first half.

Avery used her speed to beat the defender for a fast-break goal in the 58th minute, knotting the match 1-1. The Bulldogs tacked another goal in the 62nd minute when Robyn McCarthy send a corner kick into the box, finding Montanes who send the ball into the back of the net through traffic for the lead.
