'Dogs fall in straight sets in San Diego

SAN DIEGO - The Fresno State volleyball team fell in straight sets to San Diego State on Tuesday evening at San Diego City College.
With the match being pushed back 90 minutes and relocated to San Diego City College due to a power outage on the San Diego State campus, the 'Dogs fell to the Aztecs by scores of 15-25, 25-27, 13-25.
Junior outside hitter Desiree Sukhov led the Bulldogs with 14 kills for her 18th match of the season with double-digit kills. The Murrieta, Calif. native hit .323 while adding six digs and one block assist.
Freshman outside hitter Amaria Kelley added eight kills, two block assists and one dig.
Senior setter Madelyn Halteman and freshman setter Mikayla Weiss split assist duties finishing with 15 and 11, respectively.
How It Happened
Falling behind 9-3 in the opening set, the 'Dogs were unable to rebound falling behind by as many as 10 as that was the final tally dropping the set, 25-15. Sukhov led the way with four kills and Kelley added two kills.
The 'Dogs fought back tough in the second set tying the set at 10-10 on a kill by Sukhov. With the Aztecs responding with a 5-1 run to take their largest lead of the set, the Bulldogs responded with a 6-2 run to knot the set at 17 apiece. That run featured five kills and an ace as the two sides stayed even splitting the next eight points for a 21-21 tie.
Three straight points for SDSU put the Aztecs on the brink of the set win, but back-to-back kills by Rendahl and Kelley and an SDSU attack error tied the set at 24. A service error from Reagan Leonard was followed by a kill by Kelley for a 25-25 tie, but the Aztecs notched the final two points for the 27-25 win.
The third set saw the 'Dogs stay close after a kill by Kelley cut the Aztecs' lead to 7-6. An 11-5 run by SDSUÂ gave the Aztecs a 18-11 lead as the 'Dogs were unable to get any close falling 25-13.

Fresno State hosts Air Force (8-18, 5-9 MW) on Saturday for Senior Day at 1 p.m. at the Save Mart Center. Prior to the match, the 'Dogs will honor their three seniors and it will also by Salute to Services as all active and former military members get in free.
