FRESNO, Calif. - Behind stellar performances from its three seniors on Senior Day, the Fresno State volleyball team swept Air Force on Saturday afternoon at the Save Mart Center.
Winning sets 25-23, 25-13, 25-22, Fresno State (13-15, 6-10 MW) snapped its six-match losing skid with its 10th sweep of the season.
Leading the way for the 'Dogs was senior middle blocker Montez Uigaese with 11 kills while junior outside hitter Desiree Sukhov added eight kils, three service aces and six digs.
Joining Uigaese in their final matches at home at the Save Mart Center, senior middle blocker McKenzie Kramer added seven kills and four block assists while fifth-year senior setter Madelyn Halteman tallied 16 assists, one service ace and four digs.
Freshman middle blocker Grace Doyle added seven kills while redshirt freshman Julia Handy had a team-leading 20 assists. Junior libero Reagan Leonard recorded 13 digs as she moved into sixth all-time in program history in that category.
How It Happened
Jumping out to a 5-4 lead in the first set after a kill by Sukhov (watch), the 'Dogs and Falcons stayed neck-and-neck throughout the set as the 'Dogs used a solo block from freshman outside hitter Amaria Kelley (watch) to take a 19-18 lead. Increasing their lead to four at 22-18 after a kill by junior outside hitter Amilya Thompson (watch), the 'Dogs held off a late Air Force rally to secure a 25-23 set win (watch).
The second set saw the 'Dogs lead from start to finish opening up on a 8-2 run (watch) after a kill by Uigaese, increase it to as many as nine at 21-12 after blocks by Kramer and Thompson (watch) and finish it off after an Air Force attack error (watch).
The third and final set saw the Bulldogs jump out to a 11-8 lead, increase it to 15-10 after a kill by Kramer and push it to six at 24-18 after a kill by Uigaese. On the brink of completing the sweep, the Falcons answered back with four straight points, but one final kill by Uigaese completed the sweep for the 'Dogs (watch).

On getting a win on Senior Day....
"It is good to get a win and gain some confidence as we head into the final week of the season. We killed more balls than we have been able to in a while which is good to see and Julia Handy came in and did a nice job setting for the first time this season."
Up next
The 'Dogs close out the regular season next week at Boise State (16-11, 8-8 MW) on Thursday and Utah State (2-26, 2-14 MW) on Saturday.
