FRESNO, Calif. - Despite dropping the opening Fences event, No. 7 Fresno State defeated No. 8 Baylor at the Student Horse Center 12-7 on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs improve to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in Big 12 competition.
Â
Senior Paige Barton earned the only MOP honor for the Bulldogs with a 72.5 in the Reining.
Â
The 'Dogs didn't let a discouraging 4-1 loss in the Fences break them of their winning ways as the Horsemanship squad battled through three video review rides and a re-ride to come out with a 3-2 win in the event. Kameron Thorn and Baylor's Kacie Scharf were granted a reride where Thorn earned the point with a 73 to Scharf's 68.
Â
Nicole Campbell earned her point with a 71.5 to Baylor's 69 and Hannah Way won a Bulldog point with a 73.5 to Baylor's 68.5.
Â
At the halftime intermission, Baylor held on to a 6-4 lead. A two-point deficit didn't stop the 'Dogs as they accelerated for the final two events, outscoring Baylor 8-1 in the second half.
Â
The Reining squad saw their best outing of the season with a 4-0 win in the event after a tie from Addison Welman at draw five. Barton earned the highest event score of the afternoon and the MOP with a 72.5 to Baylor's 69.5.
Â
The Jumping Seat squad re-grouped after their deficit in the Fences and earned a 4-1 win in the Flat to secure the meet for the Bulldogs. Cecily Hayes remained undefeated on the day with a 78-76 victory ride in the Flat.
Â
What's Next: Fresno State returns to action tomorrow morning against No. 2 Georgia at 10 AM at the Student Horse Center. Parking and admission are free of charge. This is the last time the Bulldogs will be at home this fall. Fresno State looks for its first-ever win against Georgia.
