LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Sophomore Danielle East allowed just one hit over six shutout innings and senior Vanessa Hernandez went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four runs batted in to lead Fresno State to a 12-0 rout of UC Riverside in six innings on Sunday to conclude play at the Stacy Winsberg Invitational.
Â
Fresno State (6-4) recorded a run-rule win for the second consecutive day after an 8-0 five-inning victory over Cal Poly on Saturday. East allowed just one single, one walk, and one hit batter and retired 13 consecutive hitters to close out the game and pick up her third win of the year. The only hit for UC Riverside (3-6) was a two-out single in the first inning.
Â
Hernandez recorded her second career two-homer game and also had a double for a career-high 10 total bases in the game, just two shy of the program record. Freshman Vanessa M. Hernandez hit her first career home run, Hayleigh Galvan was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Rachel Minogue and Kelcey Carrasco also both drove in two runs for the Bulldogs.
Â
How it Happened
The Bulldogs hit first as the designated visiting team and put up three runs in the first inning before East had to throw a pitch. Kaitlyn Jennings had a one out single and Galvan walked, and on a fielder's choice and a UCR throwing error Jennings came in to score. The senior Hernandez swung at the first pitch she saw and hit a 2-run shot to center for her second homer of the season.
Â
The 3-0 Bulldog lead held until the freshman Hernandez hit her first career home run leading of the fourth inning. In the fifth, McKenzie Wilson led off with an infield single, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice, and scored on Galvan's first double of the game. A passed ball got pinch runner Aaliyah Cuevas to third and she would score on a Minogue ground out.
Â
Fresno State batted around in the sixth inning and blew the game open with six runs on four hits, two walks, and two hit batters. The 'Dogs loaded the bases on two hit batters and a walk to start the inning and Carrasco delivered a pinch-hit two run single. Galvan drove in another run with her second double in as many innings, Minogue brought her in with a single, and Hernandez capped her day with a two-run shot to left center.
Â
East needed just seven pitches to get the last three outs on two groundouts and a foul out in the home half of the sixth. Â

Notable
Vanessa Hernandez
On the game...
"I thought today was a good team win. It was a good turn around after last night. Being able to take last night's loss against a phenomenal team like UCLA, and be able to come back and have that type of offensive performance is awesome."Â
On the first career home run by Vanessa M. Hernandez...
"Ness being able to do it big for her first time as a freshman was very cool. I remember my first home run and I'm glad she got to do it big this afternoon. It's kinda neat being able to see both Vanessa's coming through today with the long ball, but is was definitely a good day today for all of us."
