RIVERSIDE, Calif. – In its home opener California Baptist scored multiple runs in each of the first three innings to record an 8-0 victory in five innings over Fresno State on Monday in Riverside.

California Baptist (2-4) hit three home runs with two coming from leadoff hitter Brittany Galvez. Pitcher Kellye Springstead allowed just one hit and two walks and limited Fresno State (6-5) to just two base runners after the first inning.

How it Happened
The Bulldogs got a walk from Kaitlyn Jennings and a double from Hayleigh Galvan in the top of the first but a caught stealing kept the 'Dogs off the scoreboard. Galvez led off the bottom of the first with a first pitch home run and four of the next five batters would reach base on three singles and two Bulldog errors to allow two more runs to score. Danielle Lung entered the game with runners on second and third and one out and struck out the first two batters she faced to get the 'Dogs out of the inning.

In the second inning Cal Baptist had a leadoff single but the runner was at second with two away before a walk and a 3-run home run from Mackenzie Budinger doubled the Lancer lead. In the third, Lung got the first two outs but after a walk Galvez hit her second home run of the game to put CBU up 8-0.

Danielle East set the Lancers down in the fourth, and in the top of the fifth the 'Dogs got a baserunner to second to lead off the inning on a two-base CBU error but she would be stranded at third as California Baptist completed the win in five.

Notable

Galvan has reached base in all 11 games this year with hits in 10 of the 11.
California Baptist will participate in the Bulldog Classic in Fresno and the 'Dogs and Lancers will meet again on March 10.
