Â
AN OVERVIEW OF THE 'DOGS
Fresno State is 2-2 on the season to date. The 'Dogs swept the competition in their dual season opening home stand, taking down Stanislaus State and Pacific, but came up short against Saint Mary's and Oregon on the road last week.
Â
After taking the conference crown last season, the reigning Mountain West champion Bulldogs have brought a revamped squad into the new season with just two returners in the lineup and six true freshmen rounding out the roster. Fresno State is led by first-year head coach Ric Mortera. The 'Dogs have no seniors on the team as the two incumbents include junior Georgia Lawson and sophomore Alessia Dario.
Â
Freshman Jennifer Timotin has taken the lead role of the young core, going 9-9 in singles overall this season with two dual singles wins at the one spot. The Dublin, Ireland, native is also 8-7 in doubles on the season with one win in duals at the one spot alongside Lawson.
Â
Freshman Jane Ellis had the most success last weekend, notching a win in both singles and doubles against Oregon. The hometown Fresno, Calif., native knocked off Oregon's Taryn Fujimori in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to stay a perfect 2-0 in dual singles play. Ellis also teamed up with fellow freshman A.C. Hummel to earn a 6-3 win over Oregon's Fujimori and Allison Mulville, the Bulldog tandem's second dual doubles win on the season.
Â
SCOUTING THE DONS
San Francisco is 4-1 this season, going 3-1 at home and 1-0 on the road.
Â
Last week: The Dons' sole defeat came in a 4-1 loss to Princeton last week, a 4-2 team that previously defeated Michigan State and has only been outmatched by No. 3 North Carolina and No. 1 Stanford at the ITA Kickoff to date.
Â
Last season: San Francisco finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 3-17, going 1-7 in WCC play.
Â
Last time: Fresno State defeated the Dons, 7-0, on Feb. 8, 2015. As the 'Dogs won the only other previous meeting, 6-1, on Feb. 9, 2013, Fresno State holds the all-time series lead, 2-0.
