Fresno State falls to Jacksonville on the road

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Fresno State lacrosse team dropped its opening game in the Sunshine State to Jacksonville on Friday afternoon, 21-9. The Bulldogs move to 3-2 on the season and will head to Deland, Fla. on Sunday to take on Stetson.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Kayla Galet and freshman Sydney Skalstad with two goals apiece.

Galet, Skalstad, Hannah Krats, Marina Mayo, Tiffiny Wallace, Natalie Yorba, Ryleigh Bone, Olivia Mannon, Abbigayle Roberts, Jordyn Pandolfo and Kayle Kaesbauer got the start for the Bulldogs, with Laurel Maunder in the net.

FIRST HALF
Fresno State was off to a hot start, scoring three unanswered goals from three separate Bulldogs in the opening five minutes. Jacksonville would go on to outscore Fresno State 5-1 in the next 10 minutes of play to take a 5-4 lead.

Skalstad scored her first goal of the game to tie things up at five apiece and Krats gave the Bulldogs the lead with a free position goal.

The Dolphins scored four unanswered goals to finish the first half and earn an 8-6 lead.

SECOND HALF
Jacksonville was resilient in the second half, outscoring Fresno State 13-3.

Skalstad scored her second goal early in the second half and Mayo followed with her only goal of the game shortly after. Galet rounded out scoring for the Bulldogs, scoring her second free position goal of the game.

The Dolphins offense proved to be too strong as it finished the game with eight unanswered goals for a 21-9 victory.
