COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State's Candice White was named to the All-Mountain West team for the second year, the league office announced Sunday morning. Maddi Utti earned MW honorable mention recognition and a spot on the league's All-Defensive Team.
Â
White became the fourth Bulldog to earn a spot on two All-Mountain West teams in their career, and the second to be placed twice on the one 10-player team when the conference moved to that in 2015. Utti is the first Bulldog to garner honorable mention since White in 2017. Her inclusion on the All-Defensive Team marks the sixth time in seven seasons that Fresno State has had a player on the team.
Â
For the second-straight season, White led the Mountain West in scoring, posting 17.8 points per game in 2019. The senior posted eight 20-point games, the second-most of any player in conference games. White was at her best against the league's top teams as she was the only player to average at least 20 points per game against every time in the top four in the conference. In six games, the Bulldog averaged 21.3 points per game Boise State, New Mexico and Wyoming.
Â
Along with leading the MW in scoring, White ranked second in free throw percentage (.882), fourth in 3-point field goal percentage (.354) and 3-point field goals made (2.4), 10th in field-goal percentage (.458) and 18th in rebounding (4.9).
Â
After earning All-Freshman Team honors a season ago, Utti earned MW honorable mention after being the only player in the Mountain West to rank in the top 10 in rebounding (5th/8.4rpg), field-goal percentage (2nd/.571), steals (4th/1.9spg), blocked shots (2nd/1.3bpg), offensive rebounds (6th/2.6rpg) and defensive rebounds (5th/5.8rpg). She also ranked 12th in scoring in 12.8 points per game. Among the Top 10 players in minutes in the league, Utti ranked first in player efficiency rating at 20.5, the only player with a rating over 20. The Seaside, Oregon native recorded seven double-doubles in conference play.
Â
Utti also grabbed her first nod on the MW's All-Defensive Team, ranking statistically as one of the top defenders in the league. The Bulldog was the only player in conference who placed in the league's top three in each of its defensive categories, ranking second in blocks, fourth in steals and fifth in defensive rebounds. With her athleticism, Utti has defended at the top of Fresno State's zone and press while also being called on to guard any position on the court when needed.
