FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team opens Mountain West play this weekend on the road. The Bulldogs will start with a trip down to San Diego on Friday for a 2 p.m. PT match with the San Diego State at the Aztec Tennis Center before traveling to Las Vegas to face UNLV at 10 a.m. at Fertitta Tennis Complex.
Â
While Fresno State will begin the conference season with two matches during the same weekend, SDSU will open with just the 'Dogs. UNLV has not seen a Mountain West opponent since Feb. 17 will only host the Bulldogs this weekend.
Fresno State enters the week with a 7-7 overall record after taking last week off from action. The Bulldogs last played on March 15, a 4-3 win over Northern Arizona. It was the team's third match in four days after dropping a pair of 4-1 duals to ranked opponents (No. 44 Utah, No. 36 Washington State) earlier in the week.
Â
Through their first six seasons in the Mountain West, the Bulldogs have compiled a record of 27-4 in regular-season matches against conference opponents.
HOW TO FOLLOW
Results for the Fresno State's matches will be provided on GoBulldogs.com and the Fresno State women's tennis Twitter account, @FresnoStateWTEN, after the conclusion of the match.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS
San Diego State enters the weekend with a 9-7 overall record. Like the Bulldogs, the Aztecs were off last week but for SDSU it was due to rain. The Aztecs were set to open conference play against Colorado State on March 21 but the match was canceled.
Â
Last time out:Â San Diego State's last match came on March 19, a 4-3 win at home over Yale, a team which defeated the Bulldogs 4-2 on Feb. 3 at the Blue-Gray National Tennis Classic.
Series history:Â Fresno State holds a 10-8 lead in the all-time series but the Bulldogs have been dominant recently, winning five straight in the series along with claiming nine of the last 10 duals dating back to 1998.
SCOUTING THE REBELS
UNLV sits at 10-6 overall on the year. Despite an 8-2 start to the season, the Rebels have gone just 2-4 since the start of March. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Aiwen Zhu is the only player in the conference who is currently ranked by the ITA as she sits at No. 96. Alongside En-Pei Huang, the duo ranks No. 48 in doubles.
Â
Last week:Â The Rebels split their matches last week. UNLV opened the week with a 4-2 defeat to No. 35 Columbia before downing UTSA 7-0 two days later.
Â
Series history:Â Fresno State holds a 14-11 lead in the all-time series. Since joining the Mountain West, the two sides have faced one another 10 times, the most of any opponent for the 'Dogs. Fresno State is 6-4 in those matches with each side claiming a conference championship against the other.
