Dirickson named MOP in No. 9 Bulldogs' 14-5 loss at No. 5 OSU

Dirickson picks up her third Flat MOP of the season and fourth of her career.
STILLWATER, Okla. - The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team fell to No. 5 Oklahoma State in Stillwater on Saturday morning, 14-5. The Bulldogs fall to 4-7 on the season and Oklahoma State earns its fifth consecutive win.Â

Senior Alexandra Dirickson was named the Most Outstanding Performer in Equitation on the Flat. Dirickson picks up her third Flat MOP of the season and fourth of her career. Dirickson has tallied a team-best 6-4 mark in the Flat this season.

How it happened
The morning started off with Equitation Over Fences. Oklahoma State earned the first three points in the event before the 'Dogs could get on the board. Freshman Cecily Hayes picked up the lone Bulldog point in the event with a 78-75 victory over Abigail Brayman. Bulldog freshman Alivia Hart had a strong outing with a 78, but was edged by reigning Big 12 Equitation Rider of the Month Katie Schell who scored an event-high 85. Schell has now won six of her last seven points. OSU took the opening event, 4-1.

Oklahoma State continued its run in Horsemanship, outscoring Fresno State 3-1 in the event. Redshirt sophomore Nicole Campbell opened up with a 75 but was edged by her opponent who scored a 75.5. Sophomore Alexis Miller earned the Bulldog point in the event with a 73.5-72.5 victory over Harley Huff. Freshman Hannah Buijs and Oklahoma State's Maddie Bender tied with a 73.5. The Cowgirls earned the final two points for a 3-1 win.

The Cowgirls and 'Dogs had the closest matchup in Equitation on the Flat, but Oklahoma State sealed the deal with a 3-2 victory. Redshirt junior Brooke Nelson picked up the first Bulldog point with a 77 to Schell's 74. Oklahoma State took the next three points, but Dirickson closed out scoring for the 'Dogs with a team-high 81 to Katie Pelzel's 67.

The No. 2 Reining squad in the nation proved itself against the Bulldogs in the final event of the afternoon. The Cowgirls took the event, 4-1. Freshman Lexee Padrick picked up her fifth Reining point of the season with a 67.5-66.5 ride over Hunter De Jane.

The Bulldogs travel to Martin, Tenn. for the United Equestrian Conference Championships on March 21-23. The quarterfinals are slated to have an 8:00 a.m. PT start time on Thursday, March 21.

The Bulldogs return home for Senior Day on Saturday, March 30 against UC Davis. Fresno State will honor its 10 seniors prior to competition. Riding is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. PT. Parking and admission to all Fresno State equestrian events is always free of charge.
