No. 3 Bulldogs drop hard-fought battle to No. 2 San Diego State in MPSF semifinals, 18-15
DAVIS, Calif. - The No. 3-seeded Fresno State lacrosse team fell in the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship Tournament semifinals after a hard-fought battle to the second-seeded San Diego State in Davis on Friday night, 18-15.

The Bulldogs put up a fight for the full 60 minutes of game action, but came up short to finish their 2019 season with a 7-7 record.

Fresno State saw another game of balanced scoring as senior Ryleigh Bone and junior Kayla Galet each had hat tricks, while junior Tiffiny Wallace, freshman Sydney Skalstad and junior Jordyn Pandolfo contributed two goals apiece. Junior Marina Mayo added a goal to round out scoring for the Bulldogs.

Junior Laurel Maunder and redshirt freshman Courtney Walburger split time in the goal against the Aztecs with Maunder in the cage for 52:21 and Walburger taking over in the remaining 7:39.

How it happened
FIRST HALF
After a scoreless opening seven minutes of play, Bone scored her first goal of the game on a free-position shot and San Diego State was able to tie the game at one apiece five minutes later with a free-position goal of its own.

San Diego State scored four unanswered goals to take a 5-1 lead with 15:24 left in the opening half. Skalstad and Pandolfo fired back-to-back goals to chip away at the Aztec lead and put the Bulldogs within two, 5-3, with 12:30 left in the first half.

The Aztecs would score again, but Fresno State did not stop firing as the 'Dogs finished the half on a 5-2 scoring run to take the lead at the half. The Bulldogs saw goals from five different scorers in Bone, Galet, Krats, Pandolfo and Wallace to reach an 8-7 advantage at the end of the first half.

SECOND HALF
San Diego State took charge in the second half, tying the game at eight apiece in the opening minute. The Aztecs would score two more in the next 10 minutes before Mayo fired one in for the Bulldogs with 17:47 left on the clock.

The Aztecs scored one to re-take its two-goal lead but Galet erased that with 15:01 left on the clock. San Diego State ultimately sealed its win with four unanswered goals in a three minute span to take a 15-10 lead with 10:54 to go.

Fresno State outscored San Diego State 5-3 in the final minutes, but it was not enough to overcome the Aztecs' scoring run.

The Bulldogs finished the game on a promising 3-0 run with goals from Bone, Wallace and Galet in the final 2:24, but nothing more could be done to stop the Aztecs.

- Sydney Skalstad tallied nine draw controls in the contest, which accounts for a new season-high and ties the program record for most draw controls in a single game.
- Six different Bulldogs had at least one assist - Wallace (2), Mayo (2), Bone (2), Krats (1), Galet (1), Pandolfo (1).
- Abbigayle Roberts and Mayo tied for a game-high two caused turnovers.
