Bulldogs downed 4-1 by Long Beach State

FRESNO, Calif. – In its final nonconference match of the season, Fresno State fell 4-1 to Long Beach State on Sunday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs dropped to 8-10 on the year while the Beach improved to 13-4.
DOUBLES
Long Beach State grabbed the upper hand in doubles with pair of decisive wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Zara Lennon and Emma Bardet put LBSU ahead with a 6-1 win on Court 3. While a back-and-forth match was occurring on Court 1, Natalia Munoz and Lalita Devarakonda clinched the doubles point on Court 2 with a 6-0 win.
SINGLES
Long Beach State pushed its lead 3-0 with a pair of straight set wins. Devarakonda defeated Ella Husrefovic 6-1, 6-2 on Court 4 and Zara Lennon followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Georgia Lawson on Court 5.

Shir Azran looked to start a comeback for the Bulldogs as she dropped Emma Bardet 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 match. It was the freshman's first win at No. 2 this season.

With the 'Dogs up a set on a Court 1 and 3, Deniza Marcinkevica looked to push to a third set at No. 6 to extend the dual. The Bulldog freshman though was unable force a tiebreak, dropping the final two points of the second set to fall to Sadaf Sadeghvaziri, 6-3, 7-5, to clinch the dual match for Long Beach State.

Fresno State will return to Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center next weekend to play its final two conference matches of the season before the Mountain West Championships (April 24-27). The Bulldogs will host San Jose State on Friday at 3 p.m. PT and Nevada on Sunday at 2 p.m.
