Bulldogs drop 4-3 result to San Jose State

FRESNO, Calif. – For the first time this season, Fresno State finished on the other end of a 4-3 result, falling to San Jose State on Friday at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs had previously won their first four 4-3 matches this year.

DOUBLES
Through a 6-3 win on Court 3, Shir Azran and A.C. Hummel gave the Bulldogs the early edge in doubles play. San Jose State countered with a 7-5 win from Miyo Kobayashi and Laura Malsert at No. 2. With the doubles point hinging on the No. 1 match, Georgia Lawson and Jennifer Timotin grabbed the final two points to win 7-5.

SINGLES
Lawson doubled the Bulldogs' lead on Court 4, defeating Savannah Sendar, 6-0, 6-2. The Spartans responded with a pair of wins at No. 5 from Malsert and at No. 1 from Culibrk in quick succession to level the dual.

Trailing 5-4 in the second set on Court 2, Azran rattled off three straight games to close out Kobayashi, 6-3, 7-5 to give the 'Dogs a 3-2 advantage.

After capturing the opening set at No. 3 on an 8-6 tiebreaker, Pedrero Galindo topped Hummel with a 6-1 second set to again even the dual. Klara Milojkovic then clinched the dual for the Spartans, claiming the last two games of the third set to win 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.
