Bulldogs close regular season with 4-0 win over Nevada

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State women's tennis team capped off its regular season with a 4-0 win over Nevada on Sunday afternoon at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center. The Bulldogs moved their record to 9-11 overall while the Wolf Pack dropped to 9-10.

Fresno State's win was its 26th all-time against Nevada and 11th straight dating back to 2010.

"I'm so proud of how we finished the regular season today," head coach Ric Mortera said. "We have shown some great growth throughout the year. We are going to enjoy this win and then get right back to preparation for the conference tournament."

DOUBLES
Shir Azran and A.C. Hummel gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 advantage early in doubles play as the duo earned a 6-2 win on Court 3. With the No. 1 and No. 2 matches close, it was Ella Husrefovic and Deniza Marinkevica on Court 2 who gave the Bulldogs the 1-0 lead heading into singles play as the two pulled out a 6-4 win.

SINGLES
Moving back up to the No. 5 position, Marcinkevica made quick work of her match against Selina Turulja, winning 6-1, 6-0. Minutes later, Jennifer Timotin provided Fresno State with a 3-0 advantage after dispatching Marta Ruedas 6-1, 6-1.

Azran clinched the final point of the dual, and finished off the sweep, on Court 1. In her first match of the season at the No. 1 position, the freshman defeated Adriana Gergelyova 6-1, 6-1. With her victory, she became the only player in the conference this season to earn a win at all six spots in the lineup.

Up Next
Fresno State will be off next weekend as they prepare for the Mountain West Championship which begins on April 24 at the Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif. Seedings for the conference tournament will be announced on April 22.
