Bulldogs open Mountain West Women’s Tennis Championship on Wednesday

FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State will open the 2019 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship on Wednesday at 10 a.m. PT at Aztec Tennis Center in San Diego. The Bulldogs are slotted as the No. 9 seed and will face No. 8 seed San Jose State with the winner to play No. 1 seed UNLV on Thursday morning.
Wednesday will be a rematch from April 12 when the Spartans defeated the Bulldogs in a tightly contest 4-3 dual at Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center in Fresno.

A look at the Bulldogs
Like last season, in which Fresno State won the tournament championship, the Bulldogs will also enter this season's championship with nine wins as they currently sit at 9-11 overall. The 'Dogs have a new look to its team this year as first-year head coach Ric Mortera leads the youngest team in the Mountain West as Fresno State features six freshmen on its roster, and is also the only team in the conference to play at least five freshmen in every dual match during the spring.

Fresno State has won the Mountain West tournament championship twice (2014, 2018) in its five years in the conference but this will be the first year the Bulldogs will seek a championship while seeded outside of the Top 3.
