COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State swept the Mountain West Player and Pitcher of the Week awards as junior Hayleigh Galvan and freshman Danielle Lung, respectively, earned the weekly honors announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Â
Lung received the Pitcher of the Week selection for the second time this season while Galvan earned the award for the first time. The 'Dogs had the MW Pitcher of the Week for the second consecutive week and the fourth time this season while the team earned Player of the Week honors for the first time this year.
Â
Lung joins teammate Hailey Dolcini as a two-time winner as the 'Dogs have now had the conference Pitcher of the Week in four of 10 total weeks this season while no other team has won more than two such honors. Fresno State's five total Player/Pitcher of the Week awards are second behind Colorado State's six total awards this year among the nine conference teams.
Â
Galvan hit 5-for-10 (.500) with a home run, four RBIs, and two runs leading Fresno State to a series win at UNLV. She had a hit in all three games with two multi-hit games. Galvan hit a go-ahead 3-run home run in the 7th inning in the series finale to give the Bulldogs a 5-3 win and posted an .800 slugging percentage and .500 on-base percentage for the week.
Â
Lung did not allow an earned run over 10.0 innings pitched while going 2-0 as the 'Dogs won 2-of-3 games in the series at UNLV. She permitted just eight hits (all singles) and one unearned run while totaling three strikeouts and holding UNLV to a .211 batting average. Over the two games she limited UNLV to 4-for-26 (.154) hitting with runners on base.
Â
Lung started and threw 6.0 scoreless innings while allowing just three singles on Saturday in a 4-0 Bulldog shutout win, her third shutout of the season. The next day she pitched the last 4.0 innings in relief, allowing five singles and just one unearned to pick up another win. She shut down a UNLV team that had averaged nearly six runs per game this year and she improved to 10-1 this season winning 10 consecutive decisions.
