Four Bulldogs advance to Saturday's finals at MW Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. – Led by a second-place finish from Patricija Roshofa in the opening heat of the women's 400 meters, Fresno State had four athletes qualify for the finals in their events on Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. It total, six Bulldogs added points to the teams' totals.

Roshofa earned her spot into tomorrow's final by winning the first heat of the 200 meters with a personal-best time of 54.19. Joining her in the final is senior teammate Maja Pogorevc who took ninth overall at 56.28.

Senior Divina Henry also punched her ticket into the 200-meter final will with a personal best of 24.66.

Qualifying for the men's side was Nathan Burd in the 800 meters. The freshman earned his spot by clocking a new best of 1.52.82 to finish eighth overall.

Earlier in the day, Hannah Chappell earned Fresno State's first points of Day 3. The junior placed seventh in the hammer throw with a personal record at 52.15/171-1.

That was followed by a pair of 'Dogs scoring in the long jump. Senior Jestena Mattson would hit a mark of 5.94m/19-6 on her final attempt to finish seventh, passing teammate Andira Ferguson who would finish the event with her best jump coming in at 5.82m/19-1.25.

Freshman Ronja Sowalder would also place eighth in the shot put as her best toss of the competition registered 13.16m/43-2.25.

The men's lone scorer on the day came from Tanner Torrez as he finished sixth in the high jump. The senior tied his personal-best mark of 2.01m/6-7, clearing the height on his first attempt. Â

Fresno State will open the final day of the championships on Saturday at 3 p.m. PT with the women's javelin. Track events will start at 5 p.m. with the men's 4x100 relay.
