Record-breaking 84 student-athletes named 2018-19 MW Scholar-Athletes

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State had a record-breaking 84 student-athletes earn 2018-19 Mountain West Scholar-Athlete honors, announced by the conference on Tuesday afternoon.
The 84 selections surpasses the Bulldogs' previous record of 82 selections, set during the 2015-16 academic year.
The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in at least one varsity competition in a Mountain West-sponsored sport.
Fresno State was led by women's track and field along with swimming and diving who both notched 11 selections, marking the most selections women's track and field has earned since joining the conference in 2012. Women's soccer followed with 10 choices, while softball and women's basketball both landed eight selections. Women's golf tailed with six awards, and football led all men's teams with five selections.
Other programs receiving MW Scholar-Athlete honors included women's tennis (5), men's track and field (4), baseball (3), men's cross country (3), women's cross country (3), volleyball (3), men's tennis (2), men's golf (1) and men's basketball (1).
The Bulldogs have recorded more than 70 MW Scholar-Athlete awards in six of seven academic years as a member of the conference, and have record 80 or more selection two times.
