FRESNO, Calif. - For the first time in program history, the Bulldogs have two horsemanship riders selected to compete and represent Fresno State at the AQHA Collegiate Horsemanship Championship at the 2019 Built Ford Tough AQHYA World Championship Show.
Â
Senior Nicole Campbell and sophomore Brooklyn Moch were selected as two of the top 12 collegiate horsemanship riders in the NCEA. The top 12 horsemanship athletes will ride unfamiliar horses, represent their school and compete for the championship title on August 5 and 6 in Oklahoma City.
Â
Competitors will face off in the Collegiate Horsemanship Championship prelims on Monday, August 5, immediately following the Level 2 horsemanship finals, in the Performance Arena. The top four exhibitors will then go head to head in the Collegiate Horsemanship Championship finals on Tuesday, August 6, following the Level 3 14-18 trail in the Jim Norick Arena.
Campbell and Moch are joined by Sarah Orsak (Texas A&M), Lauren Diaz (Auburn), Alex Albright (Texas A&M), Taylor Searles (Auburn), Kelsey Jung (Auburn), Harley Huff (Oklahoma State), Deanna Green (Auburn), Ashley Davidson (Texas A&M), Cydney Benes (TCU) and Emma Verplank (Oklahoma State).
Fresno State's last representative at the collegiate horsemanship event was Rachel Williams who became the first Bulldog to qualify for the final round of the championship event in 2017. Campbell and Moch join Williams, Taylor Brown, Sydney Elliot and Lauren Crivelli as the only Bulldogs to compete and represent Fresno State at the event.
Â
Campbell and Moch each earned NCEA All-America honorable mention honors in horsemanship at the end of the 2018-19 season. The pair had a combined 16-7 record in the western event at the end of last season. Campbell was named the United Equestrian Conference Horsemanship Rider of the Year and Moch was crowned UEC Freshman Horsemanship Rider of the Year. The horsemanship duo looks to continue their successes from last season and lead the Bulldogs on the national level as they return for the 2019-20 season.
