FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State will be represented by two swimmers at the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) National Collegiate Open Water Championship on Saturday hosted by the University of Kansas.
Juniors Darina Khisiamova and Morgan Coddington will compete in the event at Lone Star Lake in Lawrence, Kan. The women's 5K, roughly 3.1 miles long, will begin at 10 a.m. Central Time (8 a.m. Pacific Time) and consist of three laps around the lake.
The championship field consists of 80 female swimmers from a diverse group of colleges and universities spanning across the entire United States. To be eligible for the event swimmers had to meet qualifying standards and must be collegiate student-athletes eligible to compete for their NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA member institutions for the current school year.
A total of 24 schools will be represented in the event including one other MW school, Air Force, which will have five competitors. Fresno State will be competing in the event for the first time.
Khisiamova posted the second fastest time on the team in the 1650 Free last season while competing in 11 different events, the most on the team. She placed second in the 1000 Free twice last season and was third in the 1650 Free in a field of 16 in the Chick-Fil-A Invitational. This summer the Moscow, Russia native also competed in the 50th annual Seal Beach Rough Water Swim and won the women's three mile race in 56:44.4.
Coddington recently joined the Bulldogs for her junior season after competing for Fresno Pacific as a freshman and sophomore. A valley native from Kingsburg, Coddington, earned a silver medal in the 400 IM at the 2019 Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championship. She also led the team in the distance events, placing third in the 1000 Free and helping FPU win the 400 Free Relay in the double-dual vs. Fresno State and Pomona-Pitzer last year.
