Bulldogs go undefeated in Jumping Seat competitions

Fresno State earns wins over Sweet Briar College and Lynchburg
SWEET BRIAR, Va. - The No. 9 Fresno State equestrian team continued its East Coast weekend with a Jumper Seat only competition day against Sweet Briar College and University of Lynchburg on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs swept the day with a 6-4 win over Sweet Briar and a 6-2 win over Lynchburg.

Fresno State earned three Most Outstanding Player honors on the day. Freshman Ana Bertozzi was named the Fences MOP and sophomore Cecily Hayes earned the Flat MOP against the Vixens, while senior Brooke Nelson brought home the Flat MOP and Bertozzi picked up her second Fences MOP of the weekend against Lynchburg.

How it happened
Fresno State faced off against with Sweet Briar College to get the day started. The Vixens took the Fences event, 3-2. A pair of Bulldog freshmen earned the points for Fresno State. Bertozzi earned a season-high 83 to pick up her point and MOP in the event while fellow freshman Annastasia Anstead earned her point with a 73-55 ride.

The Bulldogs picked up momentum in the Flat with a 4-1 victory in the event. Anstead earned the first Bulldog point with a 77-71 ride against her opponent and Hayes followed with an 80-72 ride to earn her point. Bertozzi and Nelson rounded out scoring for the Bulldogs and secured the win for Fresno State.

The Bulldogs' opponent then switched to the University of Lynchburg shortly after. The Fences corps kept their points flowing, winning the event 3-1. Bertozzi had another high-scoring ride with an 83-55 to earn the point and her second MOP of the day. Hayes picked up her first Fences point of the day with an 82 to her opponent's 74. Senior Erica Rosinski rounded out scoring for the Bulldogs in the Fences with a 75-70 victory.

In the Flat, the Bulldogs took over the scoring again. Nelson, Rosinski and Hayes earned their points to bring home the victory for Fresno State. Nelson earned the MOP in the Flat with a season-high 80 to her opponent's 62.

- Brooke Nelson extends her winning streak to eight consecutive points, dating back to Mar. 9, 2019.
- Freshman Ana Bertozzi is undefeated in the Fences this season, 3-0.
- Fresno State moves to 7-7 in the Fences and 8-5-1 in the Flat.
- Bertozzi and Nelson are the only Jumper Seat Bulldogs to remain undefeated this season.
- The two meets will not count towards Fresno State's overall team record, but they will count towards the individual events record. Sweet Briar and Lynchburg are Jumper Seat only NCEA competing programs.Â
