Fresno State grabs five top-10s in season opening meet

SEATTLE – The Fresno State track and field team opened the 2020 season on Saturday at Dempsey Indoor with five top-10 finishes at the UW Indoor Preview. Senior Breanna Covington posted the Bulldogs' top finish of the day, placing fourth in the triple jump at 11.84m/38-10.25.
In the weight throw, Hannah Chappell earned a new personal best, landing a mark of 17.20m/56-5.25, nearly a meter-and-a-half better than pervious long (15.76m/51-8.5). The mark put her in sixth in the event while teammate Tahj'nee Thurston placed 10th with a throw of 16.24m/53-3.5.
Senior Noelina Madarieta posted Fresno State's top result in the long jump at 5.40m/17-8.75 to place ninth. Sophie Jimenez earned the Bulldogs' final top-10 result, running a time of 1:36.69 in the 600 meters.
Fresno State will take next weekend off before returning to Seattle to compete in the UW Invitational Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
