Women’s indoor 5000 record falls in day one at UW Invitational

SEATTLE - The Fresno State track and field team finished the day with an event win, a program record and a handful of personal season bests as the 'Dogs wrap up day one of the UW Invitational.
Rhiannon Walker set the Fresno State indoor record in the women's 5000 with a time of 17:15.29, taking second in the event. Her time bested the previous record by nearly six seconds and was the fastest by a Bulldog since 2024. Her time is Top 15 in the Mountain West this season.
Maria Lawson won the weight throw, collecting her first career win in any event and any season. Lawson threw the eventual winning mark of 17.30m/56-9.25 on her fourth attempt.
Ella Spaulding took second in the long jump with a mark of 5.71m/18-8.75. It is a career-best indoor long jump mark for the junior. Madison Hutton had a Top 20 finish in the event with a 5.30m/17-4.75 leap. Hutton also took seventh in the 60m hurdles, finishing in 8.88 seconds.
Liz Tarczy took second in the high jump with a mark of 1.75m/5-8.75.
Lynee Sims took third in the triple jump. In just her second indoor triple jump showing, she saw a 11.33m/37-2.75 mark.
Itzia Mejia Garcia advanced to the finals in the 60m dash, and finished sixth with a time of 7.69. It was her fastest time in the indoor 60m since December 2024.
