FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State track and field head coach Jason Drake announced the addition of Jillian Camarena-Williams to the Bulldogs' coaching staff as an assistant coach, bringing one of the most accomplished throwing resumes in American track and field history to the Valley.
A two-time Olympian, American record holder and national champion, Camarena-Williams joins Fresno State after spending the past several seasons as the throws coach at Utah Valley, where she helped develop conference champions, NCAA West Regional qualifiers and some of the top throwers in the Western Athletic Conference. Prior to Fresno State, she served on the Wolverines' coaching staff beginning in 2019 and played a key role in the continued growth of the program's throws unit.
"We are thrilled to welcome Jillian to Fresno State," said Drake. "Her experience at the highest levels of our sport, combined with her proven ability to develop student-athletes, makes her an outstanding addition to our program. She understands what it takes to compete and succeed on the national and international stage, and our student-athletes will benefit tremendously from her leadership."
One of the most decorated throwers in U.S. history, Camarena-Williams represented Team USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the 2012 London Olympics. During her professional career, she captured USA Outdoor shot put titles in 2006 and 2010, won the 2011 USA Indoor Championship while setting an American indoor record of 19.87 meters, and earned numerous international medals. Her accomplishments include a silver medal at the 2011 World Championships, a bronze medal at the 2012 World Indoor Championships, a gold medal at the 2015 NACAC Championships and a silver medal at the 2015 Pan American Games.
A native of Woodland, California, Camarena-Williams starred collegiately at Stanford, where she earned seven NCAA All-America honors and established herself as one of the nation's premier throwers. She continues to hold Stanford's outdoor shot put record and ranks among the program's all-time leaders in the discus.
Camarena-Williams joins a Fresno State program that continues to build momentum on the conference and national levels, adding elite coaching experience and a championship pedigree to the Bulldogs' staff.
