COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State's Haley Cavinder was named Mountain West women's basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. It is the sophomore's first weekly honor of her career.
Cavinder was instrumental for the Bulldogs in the first conference series of the season against Colorado State, leading the team in scoring, rebounding and assists while averaging a double-double with 21.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. She also knocked down a team-high five 3's during the week.
The Gilbert, Ariz., native recorded season highs during the two games with 24 points in the conference opener and 13 rebounds in the second game.
In Fresno State's win in Game 2, Cavinder posted her second double-double of the season with 19 points and 13 rebounds. She scored seven of her 19 points in the fourth quarter to help the 'Dogs erase an eight-point deficit. The sophomore also produced a block from behind on what appeared to be an open look for the Rams from just outside the restricted area with 2:05 remaining in the game and the 'Dogs clinging to a four-point lead.
