- Fresno State is receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball polls.Â
- Fresno State is 8-2, and coming off a 5-0 weekend at the Fresno State Kickoff Invitational. The Bulldogs posted wins over Cal, Cal Poly, Fordham (2) and Saint Mary's.Â
- The Bulldogs' only two losses are to nationally-ranked Florida (6-4) and Michigan (1-0).Â
- Fresno State finished the five-game Fresno State Kickoff Invitational with five wins, 50 runs, 47 hits, 46 RBIs, 12 triples, four home runs and an overall batting average of .379.
- Fresno State leads the nation in triples (14), with the next closest team sitting at seven.
- Last weekend, freshman Alesia Denby had a marquee tournament at the plate going 9-of-15 with nine hits, nine runs, four triples, one grand slam, and 13 RBIs, batting .600.
- Denby is tied for No. 1 in the nation in most RBIs in a single-game with eight - recorded Feb. 16 vs. Saint Mary's.
- McKenzie Wilson is No. 4 in the nation in stolen bases with 11Â averaging 1.10 per game.Â
- Juniors Hailey Dolcini and Danielle East threw a combined no-hitter in the Bulldogs' 10-0 victory over Saint Mary's on Feb. 16.
- Fresno State has six players batting above .300 in McKenzie Wilson (.469), Vanessa Hernandez (.444), Alesia Denby (.423), Kaitlyn Jennings (.393), Miranda Rohleder (.360) and Schuylar Broussard (.333).
- Fresno State returned seven position player starters and its entire bullpen for the 2020 season.
- The 'Dogs returned five All-MW selections in pitcher Hailey Dolcini, pitcher Danielle Lung, third baseman Schuylar Broussard, designated player and NFCA All-Region selection Hayleigh Galvan, and outfielder McKenzie Wilson, who was the 2019 MW Freshman of the Year.
- The Bulldogs recorded their 38th consecutive 30-win season in 2019 and finished fourth in the MW.
- Stanford is receiving votes in both the USA Today/NFCA and ESPN.com/USA Softball polls.Â
- Stanford made its first NCAA regional appearance since 2013 (17th overall) last season.Â
- The Cardinal split a pair of games against Seattle U on Thursday of last week before going 4-0 while hosting the Stanford Invitational. Stanford posted a pair of victories over Drake and Hofstra at the tournament.Â
- The Cardinal returns 15 players, including nine position starters, and four of the five pitchers from last year. Three of Stanford's four All-Conference players return, including second-teamers Teaghan Cowles and Kristina Inouye. Cowles returns for her senior year as a two-time All-Region selection.
Fresno State leads the all-time series 19-14. Fresno State has won four out of the last five games between the teams.Â
Votes Are In
Fresno State is receiving votes in this week's USA Today/Coaches Poll and the ESPN.com/USA Softball Poll. The team has received votes for the past two seasons but has not been ranked since 2017.
The 'Dogs have two opponents in front of them that are ranked in the poll including No. 1 Washington and No. 6 Texas (USA Today/Coaches Poll).
Fresno State is 0-2 against ranked teams after falling to then-ranked No. 7 Florida (6-4) and then-ranked No. 17 Michigan (1-0) during opening weekend.
Picked 5th
Fresno State was picked to finish fifth in the Mountain West. The Spartans led the way with 53 points (two first place votes), after posting a second place finish in 2019 with a 17-7 MW record. San Diego State was picked to finish second (50 points, three first place votes) and a tie between 2019 MW champion Colorado State (45 points, one first place vote) and UNLV (45 points, one first place vote) rounds out the top three positions. Fresno State received 44 points (one first place vote) followed by Boise State, Nevada, Utah State and New Mexico.
The Bulldogs finished fourth in the MW in 2019, with an overall record of 37-20 (14-10 MW).
30 for 38
Fresno State recorded a 30-win season for the 38th consecutive year in 2019. The program has had an overall winning record in all 42 seasons of its existence.
