FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State women's soccer head coach Brian Zwaschka finalized his 2020 recruiting class this month with the signing of eight student-athletes, all from California. The group includes four freshmen and four junior college transfers.
"We are very excited to add this new group to our ranks for 2020," Zwaschka said. "We believe the mixture of talent we're adding will be a great bridge from the departure of such a large and talented group from last season. We have players coming in with very good college level experience as well as some very talented and unique true freshmen. Our sense is that there is a maturity amongst this new group that can adapt quite quickly. With the unique situation from the shortened spring, this adaptation could prove huge for us. We know it is a group with great energy and ideas which will complement our hungry returning core of players nicely."
The class includes ties to the Valley, to the program and to Fresno State's past as well as connections within high school and club teams. Four of the eight incoming athletes call the Central Valley home, including Clovis High School and Clovis Crossfire teammates Julia Hardwick and Brooklin Woolf. Hardwick's father played football for the Bulldogs while Woolf's parents both competed for the track and field program. Kylie Zentner was a teammate of current senior Bulldog Robyn McCarthy at Liberty High School and West Coast Soccer Club. Zentner is joined in this year's class by San Joaquin Delta College teammate Jaylin Meza. A third pair of teammates joining the 'Dogs is Kassandra Ceja and Victoria Prado who were both members of the San Jose Earthquakes Academy.
"This fall, all our new members are coming in from within California, so we are also adding to our already great fanbase with them being able to play in front of friends and family as close support," Zwaschka added. "As always, we are happy to have a great local group here, specifically from the Central Valley, and especially to have two Bulldog Born, Bulldog Bred."
