Bulldogs shut out in home opener by Aggies, 2-0

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State women's soccer team dropped their season opener at home on Wednesday night, falling to the UC Davis Aggies in shutout fashion, 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Aggies applied pressure offensively within the opening 10 minutes of the match. Their efforts were rewarded in the 12th minute when a shot off the crossbar landed perfectly on to the foot of an Aggie forward who deposited the game's opening goal.
The Bulldogs looked to find the equalizer, putting two shots on target in the span of a minute, but the Aggies' goalkeeper made saves on both attempts to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.
After Fresno State was awarded a free kick within the final two minutes of the first half, Jordan Sprague sent a shot towards the goal that was safely turned aside by the Aggie goaltender, as UC Davis headed into halftime with their 1-0 lead still intact.
Two minutes into the final frame, the Bulldogs nearly leveled the score, but the UC Davis goalkeeper denied Tatiana Saunders' strike from inside the box to preserve the Aggies' one goal lead.
UC Davis doubled its lead in the 65th minute after capitalizing on a corner kick. A redirection off a header towards the middle of the box found an Aggie defender who finished the chance with a shot that beat the Fresno State netminder to give UC Davis a 2-0 advantage.
The Aggies limited the Bulldog's chances as the second half progressed, holding Fresno State to only three shots in the final 30 minutes of the contest. The Aggies maintained their two goal lead for the remainder of the match, as Fresno State was defeated by UC Davis by a final score of 2-0.
