‘Dogs drop road contest to Saint Mary’s, 4-0

MORAGA, Calif. - In their first road match of the season, the Fresno State women's soccer team fell to Saint Mary's by a final score of 4-0 on Sunday at Saint Mary's Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Saint Mary's threatened early, sustaining pressure inside the 18-yard box in the third minute of the contest before putting a shot on goal that Jessie Reiss turned aside. The Gaels generated multiple scoring opportunities near the 20 minute mark, hitting the goal post with their initial shot before Aryana Martinez blocked the second chance off the rebound for the Bulldogs.
The deadlock was broken with eight minutes left to play in the first half. Saint Mary's connected on a free kick that was headed in past the Fresno State goalkeeper to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead.
Fresno State earned a free kick in the opening minutes of the second half, as Selah Simms collected the pass before attempting a shot that was blocked by a Gael defender. Shortly after, Saint Mary's doubled their lead after cleaning up a rebound off a Gael shot that struck the crossbar.
Saint Mary's built upon their lead with just under 30 to play in the match, scoring their third goal of the afternoon off a centering pass to the middle of the box that was deposited into the back of the net.
The Gael's added a fourth goal in the 83rd minute to extend their lead to 4-0. Miley Blough and Kyleigh Sekulich provided the Bulldogs with their final scoring chances of the afternoon that were both saved, as Fresno State was defeated 4-0 by Saint Mary's in Moraga.
