DALLAS – For the second consecutive season, Fresno State running back Ronnie Rivers will enter the fall as a candidate for the Doak Walker Award. The senior was announced on Wednesday to the preseason watch list that honors the nation's top college running back annually by the PwC SMU Athletic Forum.
The award, which will name its 31st recipient in 2020, is named for SMU's three-time All-America running back Doak Walker. It is the only major collegiate award that requires all candidates to be in good academic standing and on schedule to graduate within one year of other students of the same classification.
The 2019 Doak Walker Award winner was Jonathan Taylor, of Wisconsin. It was his second-straight win, being the first back-to-back winner since Darren McFadden (Arkansas) in 2006-07.
