’Dogs collect more academic awards

All eight Fresno State women’s tennis student-athletes earned 2020 Division I ITA Scholar-Athlete honors. The program also collected its eighth straight ITA All-Academic Team award.
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Fresno State women's team collected its latest round of national academic awards with its eighth consecutive Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award, along with ITA Scholar-Athlete honors for all eight student-athletes on its roster, the ITA announced on Monday.
During the 2019-20 academic year, the eight Bulldogs – Shir Azran, Alessia Dario, Jane Ellis, A.C. Hummel, Ella Husrefovic, Georgia Lawson, Deniza Marcinkevica and Carlotta Nonnis Marzano – posted a cumulative 3.86 team grade point average (GPA). Three student-athletes – Azran, Hummel and Lawson – registered a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Fresno State was one of four Mountain West programs with a conference-best eight 2020 ITA Scholar Athletes, and one of 51 NCAA Division I women's tennis programs to produce at least eight 2020 ITA Scholar-Athletes.
The ITA Scholar-Athlete designation is conferred upon Division I women's tennis student-athletes with a GPA of 3.50 or above (on a 4.000 scale) for the current academic year. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
In May, the Fresno State women's tennis program received a NCAA Public Recognition Award for the sixth straight season. The Bulldogs recorded a perfect multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) score of 1,000 – based on scores from the 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic years.
In addition to being named to the 2020 Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team, selected by CoSIDA, Lawson is also one of two Fresno State nominees for the NCAA's 2020 Woman of the Year award.
