6/3/2021 10:00:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
Maja Malczewska
Position:Â Outside Hitter
Height:Â 6-0
Hometown: Gdańsk, Poland
High School: I Liceum ogólnoksztaÅ‚cÄ…ce im. Jaroslawa Dabrowskiego
Winder on Malczewska:
"Maja has been playing at a high level in Poland for quite some time. She's an experienced player who really fits with our culture and the vision of the program. She can play the game at a high level and be a very effective attacker on both sides of the court. We look forward to having her join our program!"
A native of Poland, Malczewska comes to Fresno State after leading her high school team to a fourth place finish in the Polish championships.
In addition to her time in high school, Malczewska also competed on the club scene for Gedania Gdańsk & MUKS Dargfil while also competing in swimming, badminton, tennis and horse riding.
She chose to attend Fresno State because she thinks that she can learn a lot from the team and staff. She believes that they are really good and have potential and are very committed to what they do and was looking for a team who has the energy that they have.
Sydney Gazzaniga
Position:Â Libero/Defensive Specialist
Height:Â 5-5
Hometown:Â Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
High School:Â Los Osos
Winder on Gazzaniga:
"Sydney is incredible. We are always looking to be good in all parts of our day, and Sydney has been doing that since she was young! She is a fantastic student, works incredibly hard, is a caring teammate, and has great ball control on the court. She's been around the game her whole life and has a passion for the game that is infectious. She will make a big impact right away with her ability to pass and defend, as well as with her ability to lead herself and others well. We're thrilled she's on our team and excited about her future here at Fresno State."
She finished third in school history in digs and was a team captain for the Grizzlies as a junior and senior.
Gazzaniga was a scholar-athlete for the Grizzlies and was a member of both the Superintendents Honor Roll and CSF Honors Elite.
On the club ball scene, Gazzaniga played for the RVVCÂ club for 10 years and led the team in digs and had the highest team digs and serve receive average.
She chose Fresno State for feeling a sense of home after stepping on campus and the coaches and players making her feel so welcome and there was a sense of culture that reassured her this was the place she needed to be.
Malczewska and Gazzaniga will join Brooke Cowie (Scottsdale, Ariz.), Ella Rud (Gilbert, Ariz.) and Preslee Lillard (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) in the fall as freshmen.
