'Dogs wrap up fall in Texas

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 6 Fresno State equestrian team closes out its fall slate with a trip to the Lone Star state to take on No. 7 SMU and No. 3 Baylor at their home arenas this weekend. The Bulldogs will face SMU for the second time this fall, and go head-to-head with Baylor in a Big 12 meet for their first meeting of the season.

QUICK LOOK AT THE 'DOGS
- Fresno State looks toward its second road trip of the season.
- The Bulldogs have picked up wins over the No. 6, No. 7 and No. 9 teams in the NCEA this season.
- With a win at Baylor on Saturday, Fresno State would defeat its highest-ranked opponent on the road since defeating then-No. 2 TCU on Mar. 5, 2021.
- Fresno State is 31-36-1 in the jumping seat events this season.
- Fresno State is 21-32-7 in the western events.
- The Bulldogs are led in the Flat by Sara Tuck who is 5-2 in the event with one MOP.
- In the fences, senior Cecily Hayes leads the team with a 4-3 mark, and one MOP.
- Hayes leads the team with five total MOPs this season - 4 in the flat and 1 in the fences. All four of her wins in the flat have been MOP rides this season.
- In the reining, Bailey Alexander and Lexee Padrick lead the squad with a 3-2-1 record, and one MOP a piece.
- Fresno State is led by Kameron Thorn with a 4-2 record in the horsemanship. Thorn also adds one MOP.
- Fresno State has won 15 MOP honors on the year - three in horsemanship, four in reining, five in flat, and three in fences.
- Four of the five Bulldogs who have competed in the reining this season have earned at least one MOP honor on the year.
- The Bulldogs have 27 riders who return from the 2019-20 roster.
- Head coach Eric Hubbard enters his 10th season at the helm of the Fresno State equestrian program, having served as the program's interim head coach from 2013-15.
- Assistant coaches Mary Brown (western) and Caitlin Marshall (jumping seat) enter their fifth seasons with the 'Dogs.
SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS
- It has been just two weeks since the teams last met, and Fresno State defeated SMU 11-7 at the Student Horse Center (Nov. 6).
- The Bulldogs and Mustangs have both earned wins against TCU during the 2021-22 campaign and have both fallen to Georgia and Auburn.
- SMU was ranked No. 3 in the preseason NCEA rankings, but dropped to No. 7 after suffering losses to then-No. 1 Auburn and then-No. 2 Georgia.
- SMU has earned wins over then-No. 6 TCU, Delaware State, and No. 8 UC Davis. Most recently, the Mustangs defeated No. 1 Oklahoma State on a neutral site meeting in Fresno.
- SMU is 4-4 on the year with a 2-1 ECAC conference record.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Baylor is riding a two-meet win streak, but hosts No. 2 Auburn on Friday.
- Baylor's only loss was a 10-9 loss to then-No. 4 Oklahoma State on Oct. 8.
- Baylor has outscored its opponents 48-29 this season.
- Senior Caroline Fuller was named the October Fences and Co-Flat Rider of the Month, becoming the first Baylor equestrian to earn two monthly honors from the conference in the same month.
- Fuller (fences) and Elsie Naruszewicz (horsemanship) were named NCEA Riders of the Month in September.
- Baylor and Fresno State are 2-2 in meets shared as Big 12 opponents.
