Junior defensive back Evan Williams has been named a member of the 2021 Academic All-District® Football Team
FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State junior defensive back Evan Williams has been named a member of the 2021 Academic All‐District® Football Team, College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday. The honor recognizes the nation's top student‐athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All‐America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Williams garnered his first career honor by CoSIDA, and his third-straight season with at least one academic recognition to add to his resume.
The native of Campbell, Calif. now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second-and third-team All-America honorees will be selected.
His inclusion marks the first time that a Fresno State football student-athlete has been named to the team since center Matt Smith in 2019 and, prior to Smith, Jacob Vazquez in 2016.
Williams carries a 3.87 grade point average while studying business management, and playing a critical role in the Bulldogs' performance on the field.
Williams leads the team in tackles with 81 (53 solo). He has registered five games this season with 10 or more tackles, and had a streak of three-straight games with 10 or more stops. He also leads the team in interceptions (3), broken up passes (6), and fumble recoveries (2).
