Bulldogs take loss in Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Fresno State women's lacrosse team suffered a Saturday afternoon loss at Arizona State, falling 22-6 in the contest. The Bulldogs move to 1-3 on the season.

Fresno State was led by Sydney Skalstad and Hennessey Evans who both scored two goals apiece. Hannah Krats and Megan Walaitis added one each. Defensively, Lauren Gonzales had a team-high three caused turnovers along with two ground balls. Goalkeeper Courtney Walburger recorded seven saves and four ground balls.

How it Happened
The first three minutes of play were scoreless for both teams as each team traded turnovers and ground balls before Arizona State could score its first goal in an eight-goal run to start the game.

Krats scored the first goal for the Bulldogs with 10:28 left in the first half. The Sun Devils answered with three-straight goals to extend their lead to 13-1 with 2:40 remaining in the first half. Evans closed out scoring in the first half with Fresno State's second score of the day with 45 seconds remaining in the opening period. Arizona State led 13-2 at the break.

ASU scored the first two goals of the second half before Evans netted her second goal of the game with 25:27 left in the half. The Sun Devils would go on another scoring run, netting six more to extend their lead to 21-3 with 7:33 remaining in the game.

The Bulldogs managed to pull out a few more goals to close out the half, highlighted by two from Skalstad. The junior attacker scored her first on a free-position and senior Walaitis was right behind with a free-position goal of her own. Skalstad scored the final goal of the game after winning the draw and charging the attack on her own.

Up Next - Fresno State will return home for its home opener on Friday, Mar. 5. The Bulldogs host Cal at the Soccer and Lacrosse Stadium for a 5 p.m. opening draw.
