Dominant second half leads to 28-point win for 'Dogs at Utah State

LOGAN, Utah – Unable to close the door early on Utah State after a hot-shooting first half, Fresno State ratcheted up its defense during the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Aggies by 27 to take Game 1 in this week's two-game series, 90-62 at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Bulldogs knocked down six of their 10 3-pointers in the second half and shot 49.3 percent from the field for the game.
Hanna Cavinder led all scorers with game highs of 18 points and seven assists. Maddi Utti was right behind her with 16 points and five assists. Bree Delaney chipped in 15 points off the bench. Haley Cavinder filled up the stat sheet once again, recording 11 points, 14 rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Utah State was led by Jessica Chatman who had 13 points.

Following a one-point lead at the half, the Bulldogs held Utah State to 8-of-32 from the field while shooting 18-of-38 themselves during the second half. The 'Dogs outscored Aggies 48-21 during the final 20 minutes.
How It Happened
Nearly even throughout the opening quarter, Fresno State appeared to be grab momentum during the second. Level at 29-all with just over six minutes to play in the half, the trio of Utti and the Cavinder twins combined to score or assist on six straight possessions to give the 'Dogs a 40-32 lead, their largest of the half through a 13-3 run. The Aggies, though, managed to keep its deficit in single digits by hitting three 3-pointers during the final five minutes. A 9-2 stretch to the close the half brought them within one as Fresno State clung to a 42-41 lead.
Utah State remained close during the early minutes of the third until Utti found Hanna Cavinder open for her third triple of the night. A miss at the other end led to a quick strike from the 'Dogs as Hanna linked up with Haley to put the Bulldogs back up eight. With under five minutes left in the half, back-to-back layups from Utti forced a timeout from the Aggies as the 'Dogs extended their lead to 58-46. Fresno State kept its lead in double-digits the remainder of the game, outshooting the Aggies by nearly 30 percent during the final 10 minutes.

- The Bulldogs recorded 25 assists, its second-most this season. It was their second straight game with 20 or more. They had only done that twice during the previous 14 games.
