Stephenson earns 6th in 2021 debut

Fresno State’s Tommy Stephenson earned a Top 10 finish in the Bulldogs’ season-opening Nick Watney Invitational at Sunnyside Country Club.
FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno State junior Tommy Stephenson finished in sixth place at 8-under-par in the Spring 2021 Nick Watney Invitational at Sunnyside Country Club.
The sixth-place finish matched Stephenson's best tournament finish of his Bulldog career, with the other sixth-place finish coming in April 2019 at Chambers Bay.
For Stephenson, he picked up right where he left off when the Bulldogs' 2019-20 campaign was cut short last season due to the coronavirus pandemic with Stephenson earning his second straight Top 10 finish.
He had tied for seventh in the team's final tournament nearly a year ago – the Bandon Dunes Championship (March 7-8) – back in March 2020.
History Note / Preview: The tournament was held for the 57th time this season (first time at Sunnyside Country Club since 2017) after the inaugural Fresno State Classic was held in 1964. The event was renamed the Nick Watney Invitational in the fall of 2014 and will next be hosted at San Joaquin Country Club in late September (2021).
