Fresno State (10-10, 8-10 Mountain West) begins its final week of the regular season with a road game at Boise State (18-6, 14-5 MW) on Tuesday at 4 p.m. PT on CBS Sports Network and 940 AM ESPN Radio. Â The game was previously scheduled for Jan. 22 before being postponed due to what at the time were "COVID-19 issues within the Boise State men's basketball program," which were later determined to be "a false positive attributed to an asymptomatic patient who received further testing consistent with Boise State and Mountain West protocols."
Series history: Fresno State vs. Boise State
This will be the 46th meeting in the all-time series between Fresno State and Boise State with the Broncos owning a 24-21 edge entering the series. Â Fresno State has won four of the last seven meetings with wins in two of its last three road games in Boise, including a 63-53 win back on Jan. 19, 2019. Â Since joining the MW in 2012, Fresno State is 6-8 against Boise State, which includes a 2-2 record in Hutson's tenure.
Fresno State contending in the Mountain West
Since joining the Mountain West in 2012, Fresno State has won the 2016 conference tournament championship and finished as high as second in the regular season. Â The Bulldogs have finished no lower than seventh in league play in its first eight seasons in the Mountain West, which includes four top four finishes in the past five seasons. Â In the last five MW campaigns, the 'Dogs won an average of 11 MW contests per year, including twice going 13-5 against MW opponents, including Hutson's first season at Fresno State during the 2018-19 season.
Dates set for rescheduled Mountain West games
The Mountain West rescheduled two of Fresno State's previously postponed conference games with the Bulldogs now scheduled to play at Boise State on March 2 at 4 p.m. PT (CBS Sports Network) and then host Utah State on March 6 at 8 p.m. PT (FS1). Â If both games are played, Fresno State and Boise State would join Air Force as the only three MW schools to complete a full 20-game league schedule prior to heading to the 2021 MW Basketball Championships, which will be held March 10-13 in Las Vegas at the Thomas & Mack Center. Â No spectators will be in attendance during the conference tournament due to health and safety concerns.
Fresno State producing NBA Draft Lottery picks, pros
In the last 21 seasons, Fresno State has produced three NBA Lottery picks - Paul George (No. 10 overall in 2010), Melvin Ely (No. 12 overall in 2002) and Courtney Alexander (No. 13 overall in 2000) - while UNLV has two and San Diego State has one in that same 21-season span. Â Overall, Fresno State has had 31 players go on to play in the NBA, including 21 being selected in the NBA Draft with five first-round picks (four since 2000).
