’Dogs beat Lobos in tourney opener

With the win, Fresno State will next face No. 3 seed Colorado State in the MW Quarterfinals late Thursday night.
LAS VEGAS – The sixth-seeded Fresno State men's basketball team defeated the 11th-seeded New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday in the first round of the 2021 Air Force Reserve Mountain West Men's Basketball Championships at the Thomas & Mack Center.
Fresno State (12-11) will next face No. 3 Colorado State on Thursday night at 8:30 p.m. PT in the quarterfinals of the single-elimination tournament in Las Vegas.
Fresno State sophomore guard Deon Stroud scored a game-high 19 points on 8-for-12 shooting and also had five rebounds and three steals, including one swipe that led to yet another 360-degree dunk in transition.
Isaiah Hill recorded 17 points, which included three 3-pointers, and five assists, while Anthony Holland added 15 points, 10 rebounds and six assists (no turnovers) in nearly 39 minutes of action for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine of their last 11 games played against Lobos.
Orlando Robinson also produced his 10th double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
