No. 5 Bulldogs earn Senior Day win against UC Davis

FRESNO, Calif. - The No. 5 Fresno State equestrian team defeated UC Davis 10-9 on Senior Day at the Student Horse Center Thursday afternoon. Fresno State improves to 5-2 (2-1 Big 12) on the year with one more regular season meet on Saturday. The western 'Dogs led the way in the victory, outscoring the Aggies 7-3 in the two events.

The Bulldogs earned both western Most Outstanding Performer honors in the meet. Junior Kameron Thorn earned her third horsemanship MOP of the season and freshman Ashley Jackson picked up her first career honor in the reining.

Fresno State honored its four seniors in Paley Capachi, Corissa King, Hailey Livingston, and Alexis Miller.

How it Happened
In muddy conditions in the arenas, UC Davis opened up the meet with a 3-2 win in the fences. Fresno State picked up its two points in the event from Cecily Hayes and Lizzie Stodden. Hayes won the first point with a 77-55 ride and Stodden won her point on a 74-36 matchup.

The Bulldogs stayed hot in the horsemanship, winning the event 4-1 for their most wins in the event since Feb. 25. Hannah Buijs and Alexis Steele won their points with scores of 73.5 to open the event. Thorn won her MOP point with a 75.5 to her opponent's 72.5. Brooklyn Moch picked up the last point of the event with a 73-71.5 point.

At the break, Fresno State led 6-4.

Fresno State continued its streak in the western events, outscoring the Aggies 3-2 in the reining. The Bulldogs opened the event with three-straight points from Paley Capachi, Ashley Jackson and Julianne Kelley. Capachi earned her Senior Day point with a narrow 68.5-68 ride while Kelley also edged her opponent 69-68.5 for the Bulldog point. Jackson's MOP caliber ride was a career-best 69.5-66.5 point for the 'Dogs.

UC Davis saw a momentum shift in the flat, outscoring the 'Dogs 3-1-1 in the event to cut the Bulldog lead to just one at the end of the meet. Fresno State's lone point was earned by Hayes in a 72-69 edging. Ana Bertozzi tied in her ride with an event-high 75.

Up Next - The Bulldogs travel up the 99 to face UC Davis on its home horses on Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. PT. The meeting between the programs is the last regular season meet of the season.
